A noise in the west wing of the Spencer Mansion, a zombie leaning over the body of a teammate: in 1996, Capcom and Shinji Mikami christened survival horror on PlayStation! Known in Japan as Biohazard, the saga sent Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, members of S.T.A.R.S., against the T-virus and Umbrella's failed experiments, with magazines always too light. Their own captain, Albert Wesker, was already working for the company. In 1998, Raccoon City went under in turn, with Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield lost in a police station drowning under the undead and Ada Wong in the shadows, before Nemesis started hunting Jill in 1999. The over-the-shoulder camera of Resident Evil 4 in 2005 and then the first-person view of Resident Evil 7 in 2017 changed the angle without giving up anything essential. And that essence remains intact from the console games to the novels and manga: a door to open, a badly lit hallway, and every bullet you have to count!
