A yellow disc missing a slice, four ghosts and a maze: that was all Toru Iwatani needed to create at Namco, in 1980, the arcade game that would spill out beyond the screen! Called Puck Man in Japan, Pac-Man swallows his pac-dots one by one under threat from Blinky the red one, Pinky the pink one, Inky the cyan one and Clyde the orange one. Blinky sticks to his tail, Pinky and Inky try to cut off his route, while Clyde alternates between chasing and running away. The power pellets turn the game around for a few seconds: the ghosts turn blue, flee in the opposite direction, and the hunter becomes the hunted. Cherries and keys push the score up from level to level. With more than 300,000 units sold, the cabinets turned this yellow disc into a genuine logo. Today the maze is tackled controller in hand, from the Nintendo Switch to the most recent home consoles.
