Kirby opens his mouth wide, inhales the enemy passing by and walks off with its power in his pocket! The little pink hero created by Masahiro Sakurai and HAL Laboratory actually arrived without that talent on Game Boy in 1992: in Kirby's Dream Land, he chases after the food that the gluttonous King Dedede has stolen from the land. The copy ability arrives in 1993 with Kirby's Adventure on NES and changes everything: each mouthful gives him a new outfit, from fire breath to sword strikes. Dream Land unrolls its pastel hills on the planet Popstar, among hordes of Waddle Dees, the masked swordsman Meta Knight and old Whispy Woods, who bombards the careless with apples. One gulp of air and the pink ball flies above the chasms, cheeks puffed up like a balloon. Inhale, copy, keep the power: the principle works off screen too, where the smallest round-cheeked plush brings a piece of Dream Land home!
