All it took was a damp castle, a Round Table where nobody listens to anybody and a King Arthur at the end of his tether to dust off the Arthurian legend as soon as Kaamelott arrived on M6 in 2005! Alexandre Astier wrote it entirely and plays the sovereign in it, carving out of three to four minute formats a comedy of pure dialogue: Perceval mumbles his "that's not wrong", Karadoc turns fat into a philosophy and Leodagan the Bloodthirsty wants to settle everything with a sword. Over the six Books and 458 episodes, the format grows longer and the farce darkens until the quest for the Grail becomes an intimate drama. The move to the big screen, with First Part in 2021 and then a Second Part begun in 2025, gave this chronicle of corridors the scope of an epic. In the kingdom of Logres, the true national treasure remains the one-liner, and it left the screen long ago to keep circulating everywhere Arthur's faithful come to read it again!
