An oversized jaw, a prehensile tongue and a white spider spread across a black chest: Venom has never needed to introduce himself twice! The symbiote arrives at Marvel in 1984, clings to Spider-Man's skin in the form of a black suit that the web-slinger eventually rejects, then finds its most famous host in 1988 in Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist who blames the spider-man for his downfall. David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane turn it into a creature far more massive than the hero whose silhouette it copies, fearsome but vulnerable to fire and high-pitched sounds. From the same strain would come Carnage, a scarlet offspring grafted onto the killer Cletus Kasady, far less presentable company. The monster then shifts toward the antihero, a lethal protector with expeditious methods, before Tom Hardy lent him his features on screen in 2018. Every collectible extends this murky symbiosis in which you never know who, the host or the monster, really holds the reins!
