Braid down her back, turquoise bodysuit and a pistol in each hand: in 1996, Lara Croft burst onto the Saturn and the PlayStation! Created by Toby Gard at Core Design, the British archaeologist sets out to find the three pieces of the Scion on behalf of Jacqueline Natla, a businesswoman on the surface and a banished Atlantean ruler underneath. From Peru to Greece, from Egypt to the ruins of Atlantis, she makes her way without a single teammate, between pixel-perfect jumps and rusty levers, with wolves leaping out of the dark as her only company. Crystal Dynamics then picked up the torch and delivered a reboot in 2013 in which a 21-year-old Lara learns to survive on the island of Yamatai. On screen, Angelina Jolie lent her her features in 2001 and 2003, before Alicia Vikander took over in 2018. Since 1996, the explorer has never put away her ice axe: home consoles, comic book panels and bookshelves carry the hunt far beyond the tombs!
