New Orleans, the 1920s: a jazz cornet drifts off a wrought-iron balcony and Tiana works shift after shift while dreaming of her own restaurant. The film by John Musker and Ron Clements, released in 2009, returns to traditional 2D animation to tell a tale where the kiss goes wrong: instead of making Naveen human, it turns the waitress into a frog! Off to the bayou, with Louis the trumpet-playing alligator and Ray, the firefly madly in love with his star Evangeline, while Dr. Facilier pulls the strings of his friends on the other side and Mama Odie teaches the two amphibians to tell wanting from needing. Steaming beignets, slow-cooked gumbo and Mardi Gras brass make up a universe that Randy Newman's music makes impossible to mistake. Since then, the bayou has spilled off the screen, and every figure, every illustrated book or accessory dotted with fireflies relights a little of the evening star!
