Twenty years after a cordyceps fungus toppled civilization, the America of The Last of Us is reduced to a few quarantine zones under army control and cities given back to vegetation. Created at Naughty Dog by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, the game released in 2013 on PlayStation 3 sends out Joel, a smuggler haunted by the death of his daughter Sarah, and Ellie, fourteen years old and immune. From Boston to Salt Lake City, the duo runs into bloaters and clickers, those blind creatures that hunt by ear, while the Fireflies wait at the end of the journey with the hope of a cure. And all the tension of the story lies there: the longer the road gets, the more reasons Joel has never to finish it! The sequel released in 2020 and then the HBO series launched in 2023 with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have softened none of this dilemma. The PlayStation 4 and 5 editions, the comics and the books stretch this road out by a few hundred more miles!
