Shrek collection

A green-skinned ogre who doesn't eat children, lives alone deep in his swamp and asks only for peace: that was the thumbing of the nose DreamWorks studios gave to the fairy tale in 2001! Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson adapted the picture book published by William Steig in 1990, with a gruff hero far more endearing than any Prince Charming. It's the fairy tale creatures dumped on his land that push him all the way to Duloc, to Lord Farquaad, with the talkative Donkey stuck to his heels, then on to the tower guarded by the Dragon where Princess Fiona hides her secret. In 2002, the film won the very first Oscar for Best Animated Feature, before Puss in Boots joined the gang in 2004. Between the gingerbread man, Pinocchio and that stubborn moral that laughs at appearances, the swamp stretches well beyond the screen to settle into collections: ogres, like onions, have layers!
