A paper boat races down a gutter in Derry, a small hand in a yellow raincoat chases after it, and two eyes shine at the bottom of the storm drain: that was all Stephen King needed to set up the terror in his novel published in 1986! Behind the smile of Pennywise, a dancing clown who holds out red balloons while swearing that everyone floats, lurks an entity that comes back to haunt the small Maine town every twenty-seven years. Against it, the Losers' Club, from Bill Denbrough to Beverly Marsh by way of Richie Tozier, sets a teenage friendship stronger than fear. Tim Curry in 1990, then Bill Skarsgård under the direction of Andy Muschietti in 2017 and 2019, gave two unforgettable faces to the monster of the sewers. The POP figures now line up all of its grimaces and the Loungefly bags carry the red balloon out in broad daylight: the chill of Derry no longer stops at the end credits!
