On the island of Berk, dragon hunting is passed down from father to son, until the night a scrawny teenager brings down the Night Fury no one had ever seen and refuses to finish it off. Brought to the screen in 2010 by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois at DreamWorks Animation, based on the novels by Cressida Cowell, How to Train Your Dragon ties together the unlikely friendship of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the disappointing heir of Stoick the Vast, and Toothless, deprived of one tail fin. The boy carves him a replacement fin so they can fly together, and the blacksmith Gobber will do the same for Hiccup's leg. Astrid Hofferson looks down on the apprentice before flying at his side, and John Powell's score, Oscar-nominated like the film itself, lifts every flight above the cliffs. The trilogy closed in 2019 with How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. As for Toothless, he now settles at the foot of the bed, as a plush, replacement fin included!
