Kingston Falls was having a quiet Christmas until the gift brought home by Billy Peltzer's father: a mogwai with big ears and his three rules, no bright light, no water, and above all nothing to eat after midnight! Gizmo sticks to the deal, his five offspring do not: one splash is enough to spawn the gang led by Stripe and his white crest, who manages to have dinner past the fateful hour. The cocoons hatch, the green critters cackle, the town pays the price, in a slapstick massacre directed by Joe Dante in 1984, written by Chris Columbus, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. Too ferocious for its own rating, the film gave birth to the PG-13 that same year along with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, before Dante revived the farce in 1990 with Gremlins 2. All that is left to do is set up a Gizmo plush at home, away from water, out of bright light and without a single snack after midnight!
