The Ecto-1 siren tears through the streets of Manhattan and a Tribeca firehouse becomes the most unlikely of headquarters! Directed by Ivan Reitman in 1984 from a screenplay by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, Ghostbusters, released in France as SOS Fantomes, sends Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler into the ghost-hunting business, with Winston Zeddemore as reinforcement. Proton pack on their backs and trap open on the floor, the team corners the green glutton nicknamed Slimer in the ballroom of the Sedgewick Hotel, before Gozer takes on the pasty features of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Ray Parker Jr.'s theme, nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1985, carved the ghost crossed out in red into the collective imagination, right down to the LEGO bricks and POP figures filling fans' shelves. Egon had laid down the golden rule: never cross the streams. Needless to say, collectors cheerfully break it!
