Harleen Quinzel was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum before a patient named Joker shattered her white coat and her sanity! Created in 1992 by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series, she becomes Harley Quinn, in a red and black harlequin suit with an oversized mallet in hand, before breaking free from her tormentor. In 2020, Cathy Yan brought that break to the screen in Birds of Prey, a high-voltage spin through Gotham where Harley cuts her hair, adopts a hyena and laces up roller derby skates. At her side stand Black Canary, Huntress, detective Renee Montoya and pickpocket Cassandra Cain, all banded together against crime boss Roman Sionis, alias Black Mask. The squad itself did not wait for the movies: back in 1996, Chuck Dixon brought Oracle and Black Canary together under that banner. Between the original comic books and the vinyl of the figures, there is still plenty of reason to lace up the skates and swing the mallet long after the credits roll!
