Dripping corridors, exposed pipes and a flashing alarm: the Nostromo is a space tug where seven sleepers come out of cryogenic sleep to answer a signal! In 1979, Ridley Scott built an industrial chamber piece there, where the threat comes as much from the creature as from the Company, whose android Ash carries out orders in silence while the cat Jones slips between the ducts. The shock comes from the pencil of Swiss artist H.R. Giger: a black, glistening shell halfway between bone and machine, an egg closed over its facehugger, a jaw hiding a second one. Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, stands up to this nightmarish anatomy, then to the Queen herself at the controls of a cargo-loader exosuit in Aliens, directed by James Cameron in 1986. The vinyl of the figures finally offers the luxury of studying this design up close, in full light.
