The young lion cub has always carried heavy responsibilities on his slender shoulders. Son of Mufasa, king of all the inhabitants of the savanna, he is his heir and beloved son. But Simba has to overcome adversity after the heavy betrayal of his uncle Scar, who is responsible for leaving him an orphan. Exiled to the far reaches of the savanna, he feels forced to give up his legitimacy as king. Fortunately, he can count on friends of unfailing loyalty: with Timon and Pumbaa, Simba discovers the meaning of duty, friendship and legacy, and learns, through his journey, the true role of a king.

Rafiki, the mysterious mandrill, knows life's best-kept secrets. Despite an eccentric wisdom, he is the unique link between the visible and the invisible. He introduces Simba to the philosophy of the "Circle of Life" and becomes a spiritual mentor in a childhood shaped by the ideal of a king. Guardian of bonds and legacy, he guides the lion cub in his father's footsteps, whom Simba hopes to make proud one day. But after the death of the revered king, sadness takes hold of Rafiki, who must find a way out of the tyranny imposed by Scar.

Celebrated by all the animals of the savanna, Mufasa is the precious guardian of the animal people. An eternal keeper of the peace, he is a just king who always acts in the interest of his subjects. To ensure the continuity of his line, he trains his son, Simba, to one day succeed him. But never thinking that this moment would come too soon: jealousy is an ugly flaw that drives his brother, Scar, to commit an irreparable sin.

Timon, a mischievous and cheerful meerkat, forms a surprising duo with the warthog Pumbaa. At the bottom of the food chain, he nevertheless isn't frightened at the sight of the lonely lion cub. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, he discovers that the one standing before him is the prince of the savanna. Moved by Simba's tragic fate, he guides him toward a new philosophy, that of Hakuna Matata. Simba leaves behind his worries and his royal past, adopting a carefree way of life with his new friends for life.

Pumbaa the warthog stands out among the animals of the savanna for his cheerful and generous character. With his optimistic nature, he radiates a positive energy that brightens the adventures of the three friends. His simplicity reflects that optimistic nature: although he isn't the cleverest of the group, Pumbaa more than makes up for it with his kindness, his loyalty and his generous heart. Guided by the Hakuna Matata philosophy, he lives his life as he pleases alongside his eternal and most faithful friend: Timon.

Born the younger brother, Scar has suffered from a lack of recognition since birth. Having always dreamed of being crowned king of the savanna, his dream will never come true. But his desires push him to break the rules of royalty: only the premature death of his brother, Mufasa, would allow him to take the throne. Driven by an insatiable thirst for power, he has no choice but to carry out this grim task to fulfill what he believes to be his true destiny.

Tasked with protecting the young lion cub on his jungle journeys, Zazu is a particularly talkative bird. He flies above Simba's tracks to watch over the future king and keep him away from potential dangers. His role as adviser and protector of the royal family becomes a threat after the tragic death of Mufasa. The new king decides to reduce his elder brother's legacy to ashes in order to establish his own legitimacy. Captured by Scar, he is imprisoned with the hope that one day the true king will come to save him.

The laughing hyenas, Shenzi, Banzai and Ed rush in with the boldness of those who have nothing to lose. Shenzi leads with a piercing eye, Banzai follows, quick as lightning, while Ed, forever unhinged, laughs chaotically. They cackle, squabble and circle under the gray sky, merciless shadows ready to do anything to survive. Far from the laws of the kingdom, they drift between madness and cruelty, cackling furies of the forbidden lands, ready to devour anything that crosses their path.
