Pinocchio books

We all know the little puppet with the temperamental nose... but Pinocchio is first and foremost an Italian literary classic, far more biting and symbolic than the version sweetened by Disney. Published in 1881 by Carlo Collodi, this coming-of-age tale blends childish mischief with social criticism, mixing tenderness, cruelty and metaphor. Since then, the character has crossed eras, continents and adaptations. And literature has never let him go: illustrated picture books, modern rewrites, pop-up books, bilingual editions, graphic adaptations or collections of analysis to dissect this curious myth... the Pinocchio universe has more than one string to its bow. Our selection of the best Pinocchio books pays tribute to this hero made from scratch, but with a very real heart.
