With its one hundred and ninety-two pages, the book offers twenty-two tutorials. Divided into four themed chapters, the creations will take you on the road to Hogwarts, into class, into clubs and competitions or to Christmas at Hogwarts. Each tutorial starts with a presentation page featuring a staged photo of the finished object as well as an introduction placing the object within the Harry Potter saga. Below the title, the difficulty is shown with one to five lightning bolts. The list of materials follows this title before giving way to the illustrated step-by-step instructions. To close the tutorial, you will have the pleasure of finding boxed notes offering technical details, film anecdotes and quotations related to the object. Photos from the shoot are also scattered throughout the book. From cutting to quilling, as well as assembly, bookbinding, sculpture, drawing and collage, this guide highlights a variety of techniques and lets readers try a bit of everything. The explanations are staged to perfection with incredibly precise drawings. Step-by-step work has never been so simple and clear for bringing these projects to life. You will not find any characters in the book, since only objects from the films and books are featured.
Harry Potter: The Official Magical Craft Book offers sixteen pages of pre-cut templates that are easy to duplicate and made of quality paper. This allows you to avoid any nasty surprises and to try these creations without hesitation. Most of them are revisited do-it-yourself classics. However, some projects are more original, such as Umbridge's quill, Dumbledore's Christmas crackers or the Quick-Quotes Quill. Although accessible to the whole family, some projects require sculpting skills and above all dexterity. This may put off the uninitiated, especially as the difficulty rating is rather poorly done. Despite the good production quality of the book, some creations are not very attractive or use materials that could have been better suited. That takes nothing away from the magic of this book, which can enchant your world.
